You can find many good reasons to spend your holiday but the most important one is definitely its idyllic location.
Our properties are perfectly situated between Tuscany’s famous Val d’Orcia, the mystical, almost lunar landscape of the Crete Senesi, and an easy drive to many famous towns and cities. Once you have seen the Val d’Orcia and its five beautiful towns Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico d’Orcia, Castiglione d’Orcia, and Radicofani, you’ll understand why it was selected to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The vineyards of the Brunello of Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, the delightful natural hot springs of Bagno Vignoni and Bagni di San Filippo, the delectable Pecorino di Pienza, the heart-stopping horse races of the Palio of Siena, the finest extra virgin olive oil in the world, the rare and precious white truffle, the countless castles, fortresses, and historic buildings, the splendid artwork, and the most photographed landscapes in the world are located in this exquisite corner of Italy.
Would you like to be surrounded by a landscape so gorgeous, it takes your breath away? This is Val d’Orcia, the quintessential Tuscan landscape that has lured great writers and poets, photographers, and cinematographers to capture its beauty for generations. The villages and countryside of Val d’Orcia are pristinely preserved, free of urban and industrial sprawl, and will remain that way because the entire valley has been declared a “World Heritage Site” by UNESCO.
This area is yet another one of the most photographed in all of Italy, both for the uniqueness of the landscape and for the presence of historical and architectural buildings. The heart of Le Crete, a sandy, lunar landscape, has a magnetic fascination. The primary characteristic of this area is the earth’s grey color which features different shades and reflections according to the time of the day and the season. It is a vast area which features little vegetation and deeply eroded gullies, which looked carved by a cosmic sculptor.
When you stay at any of our four properties, you will be spoilt for choice, as we are surrounded by charming Tuscan villages to explore. Here is a sampling of some of our nearest and dearest. (And when you arrive, we will help connect you with wonderful restaurants, markets and festivals in these special locations–that’s what The Isabella Experience is all about!)
